Independent Variable was formed by practitioners and technologists who grew frustrated with the lack of usable data and technology available to help solve some of society’s most difficult problems.
With extensive experience in social service and software design, program and performance management, and public sector and nonprofit innovation, the Independent Variable team is uniquely equipped to help clients imagine and test new ideas and examine the efficacy of existing approaches.
Meet Adam Serlin, Founder of Independent Variable Consulting
Adam Serlin is a performance management and social innovation professional dedicated to helping partners reimagine and deliver effective solutions to difficult problems. As a frontline practitioner himself, Adam spent over a decade designing and managing a number of nonprofit juvenile justice and violence prevention programs in the City of Philadelphia, before receiving a three-year Stoneleigh Fellowship to help spread his brand of data-driven performance management.

Passionate to deliver affordable technology and management solutions to those on the frontlines of social change, Adam founded Independent Variable in 2018, where he now lends his practice-focused lens to any technology, training, research, design, or implementation projects undertaken by the firm. Adam is a firm believer in the use of open technology for social good, the power of data literacy in driving equitable outcomes, and that the UNC Tarheels are the greatest college basketball program in the history of the world.
